SMS under 140 characters being split

When I send an SMS using the Airdroid program on my computer it is being split into multiple messages. I understand the limitation of Android that messages over 140 characters will be split and split evenly (that evenly part is annoying on its own) but this is definitively happening on messages shorter than 140 characters. I specifically checked the last time this happened and the total message count was 123. I haven't done testing on exactly where the split count is but why would this be happening on anything other than 140?

Hi,

Sorry that if you are using Android 4.4+, long SMS will be split into several parts on your side but the recipient will receive it as a whole one. Detailed explanation: http://help.airdroid.com/customer/portal/articles/1653903

Yes I know that article. But I specifically said SMS that are LESS THAN 140 characters are being split. Why would they be split if they are shorter/less characters than the article states causes it to occur?

From the Article: "That’s to say, the message sent via non-default SMS App will be split evenly automatically by Android System with version 4.4 +, if it exceeds the 140 character. "

They do NOT exceed 140 characters and they are being split. Why?

I guess then there's either no idea why it's happening or ......?
