Airdroid used to allow me to connect, now I need to open the app first

On my PC I used to be able to open my browser and enter my phone IP and connect. Now I need to go to my phone and open the airdroid app first. It then works, but it's just annoying. Why has this changed? Is there a setting somewhere in the app I can change to make it go back to the way it used to be, allowing me to connect without having to open the app on my phone first?
