QuickPic app on Nexus 7 causes Remote Mirroring to crash

I'm amazed with how solid the mirroring feature works - but have found a very perplexing quirk with an app called QuickPic that my particular use-case for AirDroid hinges on. Opening the QuickPic app causes the connection with AirDroid to immediately crash, prompting me to check my network settings. If QuickPic is open on the Nexus 7 screen, AirDroid will not connect at all. If i'm looking at specific galleries in QuickPic, *some* of them work perfectly fine and don't cause the crash. *Other* galleries cause the crash in the same way as opening the main screen of QuickPic.
So far I can't figure out any correlation for why some images would deny connection and others would. I've tested for file size, dimension, file format, and no luck. Wondering if anyone has ideas?

Stock Gallery app seems to be doing it as well, though seems more unpredictable in what will trigger the crash.
