slow file transfer speeds over wifi

I consistently cannot file transfer from galaxy 3 to macbook pro. The download starts at good speed (approx 900kb/s), slows quickly to a trickle, then stops.
I used a windows based pc a few days ago and download speeds were fine. Is there anything I need to change to use on the apple o/s?

We've tested this but not similar situation happened.

And what's the web browser you are using?
