This is not limited to Airdroid. I have websharing lite installed and am having the same issue. It has something to do with 4.4.2 not allowing certain functions on external SD cards. Some sort of security problem.

Google has blocked write access to external SD card in Android 4.4. We're trying to figure out a workaround.
