questions on Settings

Am new to V2 and have 2 questions on the settings:
1. what is screen lock?
If I click it, it just asks me for the screen unlock pin.
Is it to unlock the screen remotely?
(don't want to 'just try it' in case I can't revoke it.)

2. My Push service is ON but says Disconnected,
even though I am connected via the web interface.
So what does 'Disconnected' mean here?

thanks

Hi alienheartbeat,

1. If you've activated the "Find phone" feature, you can enable "Lost Mode" on web.airdroid.com and set a passcode of screenlock. You can remove the screenlock whenever you want.

More details: http://help.airdroid.com/customer/porta ... es/1281077

2. Push service is for: when you sign in to web.airdroid.com, the AirDroid app starts automatically (prerequisite: you have signed in to AirDroid app with the same AirDroid account).

There are 2 parts of the push service:
1. The Push service in AirDroid settings. It was built by AirDroid devs.
2. GCM.

The display of "Disconnected" means the push service built by AirDroid devs is disconnected. But if your device supports GCM, you still can use AirDroid normally.

Hi Coffee_Administrator

Thanks very much for your replies.

1. I understand generally Find Phone - have used it from Goggle Device Manager,
though the Airdroid vsn is more powerful.
I have not yet activated it - it requires me to set Device Administrator,
which I don't want to do yet - let me get more experience with this app.

I read the link you gave, but
I am not sure I understand the 4-digit passcode.
Is it in case I have not already set a screen lock pin - it sets one for me?
And if I have set one, does it override/change it?
Because normally to change the screen unlock pin, you normally need to enter the existing pin.

2. I understand the Push Service - not in the documentation but had divined it from these forums.
And what you say is must be correct: when I set the Push Service to OFF,
I was still able to remotely connect.
So, it must be, as you say, using GCM.

However I cannot see GCM in the list of the apps permissions? - a small point but I am curious.

But more importantly, why would the push service built by AirDroid devs be disconnected?
If I have set Push to ON, should it not be Connected?
Update: after another day and several reboots, it is now "Connected".
Must be a not completely robust protocol.

thanks

Hi again,
Sorry for the late reply.

1. Yes.

If you don't set screen lock on your device, AirDroid will set one for you.

If you have set one before, the new 4-digit passcode will replace the previous one.

2. The push service will be affected by the network environment on your side, and which server (We are using Amazon server) your account has been assigned to.

Hi Coffee_Administrator

Thanks very much for the reply.

1. Is there any way to avoid this? I use a 7 digit pin - there are always rascals looking over my shoulder trying to guess my passcode (If they catch 2 or 3...), so I prefer to avoid forced reverting to just 4 digits. Does this also mean if someone has set 'pattern' or 'face unlock' airdroid will also cancel them and repalce them with a 4 digit pin?

2. Thanks. In any case there seems to be good fallback and it seems reliable.

Hi alienheartbeat,

1. Yes.

You may just have a try :) Set a passcode via AirDroid.

If you don't like the 4 digit one, you can change it whenever you want: On your Android device, go to "Settings" > "Security">"Screen lock"> enter the unlock code of Lost Mode> "Next"> and choose "None".

Thanks. Obviously will have to mess with it sometime. Will put it on hold for the moment. If you are ever communicating with the documentatin people, a bit more clarity on how exactly this works and what exactly it does would be helpful.
