QR code scanner not working

Hi,

The QR Scanner in my version of Airdroid (2.1.0 running on a Samsung S4, Android 4.4.2, kernel 3.4.5-2434847 official rom) refuses to scan the login QR code.

When I scan it with a 3rd party application like Barcode Scanner it reads immediately, but not in Airdroid. I've tried changing the camera orientation etc. but no joy...

I can see it trying (there are little yellow dots as it tries to find the barcode) but it never finds it.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900M, Android 4.4.2, kernel 3.4.0-2700154.

Just to confirm my network environment is fine - when I log in normally it works perfectly.
I also just discovered something else:

One's natural thought is to bring the phone up really close so that the QR code fills the screen, but I just found that if I hold it really far away (the barcode fills < 20% of the screen) it works...

But, in my old Galaxy S2 worked with the phone close to the screen.
