Using as a backup?

Is there a way to use this as a backup? Can the data between the phone and the computer be controlled. Example: Can I delete say pictures on my phone and not have them deleted from AIrDroid. I need to do a factory reset (again) and learned the hard way (with a different program) that when delete on phone: deleted in program. Lost ALL my information.

Might have answered it myself. I exported to downloads. Hopefully the apps won't parse.
