Using the original wildfire it can be a bit slow browsing around, so some form of app so less data needs to be sent from the phone and speeding everything up.

Because this is an app that is all about serving the phone's data to the web interface, providing there isn't huge inefficiencies somewhere, it's hard to conceive how the same can be achieved with any less data from the phone.
I'm using a fairly modest set up on a 2011 entry-level Sony Ericsson phone and everything happens instantaneously. Even file transfers are at a comparable rate to direct USB.
So I can only suggest you either put up with it or investigate what other reasons you might be getting poor response times. Router config etc.
It might not simply be because you have an older phone.
